Sir Isaac Isaacs

On this day in 1885 Isaac Isaacs was born. He was to become Australia's first Australian-born Governor General. We have listed him in our 200 Significant Australians. Read more at The White Hat Guide to Sir Isaac Isaacs.

On this day in 1835 John Batman conducted a treaty with local Aborigines regarding the annual lease of land in the region now known as Victoria.

On this day in 1942 a large allied force landed on the beaches of France in what is now known as D-Day.

This day is also Swedish National Day recognising both the day in 1523 when when King Gustavus I came to the throne as well as the day in 1809 when the Swedish Constitution was adopted in 1809. It is a public holiday in Sweden.

Organic pork, Northern Rivers Rice, baked goods, fresh Pillar Valley bananas, free range and organic eggs, award winning jams and preserves, honey, local mushrooms, passion fruits and a full range of seasonal fruit and veg. White Hat notes that this one of the few midweek farmers' markets to be found in rural NSW.

The National Motor Racing Museum celebrates the rich history of Australian Motor Sport, with a particular focus on Bathurst and Mount Panorama as the spiritual home of Australian motor racing and covering all facets of motor sport from the 1920s to the present.

The stories of drivers and events are told through original trophies, race suits, leathers, race footage and photographs. See many of the dominant machines that ran in Australian touring car, open wheeler, rally, motorcycle and speedway races. Take in one of the ever-changing exhibitions and experience the Immersive Room which gives visitors a taste of the speed, sound and excitement of racing at Mount Panorama.
