This day is the anniversary of the Battle of Amiens, which was one of the most successful advances made by Allied forces during the WWI. The efforts of the ANZAC Corps were orchestrated by General Sir John Monash and would be much lauded as an example of combined arms warfare in a conflict mostly remembered for the stalemate of trench warfare. For those who value its place in Australian history it has become known as 08-08.
On this day in 1880 Earle Page was born. He was later to become Prime Minister of Australia.
On this day in 1909 Mary MacKillop died.
On this day in 1959 the Aboriginal painter Albert Namatjira died.
