South Melbourne Town Hall

On 18 Oct (Thu), the roof at South Melbourne Town Hall (home to MAV), collapsed and caused three levels of ceiling to come down followed by extensive flooding from a burst water pipe in the ceiling. City of Port Phillip staff pumped 12,000 litres of water out of the building. Thankfully no one was injured. The entire building, which MAV, ANAM and other organisations lease from the City of Port Phillip, was evacuated and has been closed since the incident. White Hat will keep you posted about the relocation of events scheduled for this venue.

The South Melbourne Town Hall is currently the home to the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and, as a result, the venue for many concerts. A large number of these concerts are free. For those that are not, cheap student rush tickets are often available 15 minutes prior to the start of the concert.

In addition the building houses a community hub which is currently home to such organisations as Friends of the ABC and Save Albert Park.

More information on ANAM can be found at Australian National Academy of Music.
