The Gleadell Street Market is one of the few remaining traditional
street markets to be found in inner Melbourne. It was established by farmers
in the 19th century when most markets in Melbourne were predominantly
farmers' markets. No doubt said farmers would chuckle if they read read
certain websites that state "farmers' markets were first established in
	the 1990s".
The Gleadell Street Market is a produce market selling fresh fruit and
vegetables along with bread, nuts, and other foodstuffs. There are no
butchers, but there is one fishmonger. The adjoining local primary school
often has displays, activities and additional stalls.
A short description of a visit to the market can be found in an archived
	White Hat Melbourne Newsletter at
	Melbourne's Hidden
	Gems.
