Streets, Suburbs & Precincts

Melbourne rates particularly high for those seeking a creative lifestyle. This is according to the National Economics' 2002 State of the Regions Report  which measured characteristics such as "openness with regard to acceptance of social and cultural diversity, bohemian and alternative lifestyles, and multiculturalism, in conjunction with vibrant street culture, music scene, night life and open spaces".

In some countries and guide books these areas we have mentioned may be referred to as 'villages' but that is not a term used by Australians. The term "precinct" is usually seen as a marketing term created by tourism agencies and locals in Melbourne generally think in terms of streets and suburbs.
