CPAC Open Day - Cairns

11am - 8pm
Cairns Performing Arts Centre

Explore CPAC, pick up a program and enjoy a drink in the foyer. Free guided tours of the new state-of-the-art CPAC building will depart regularly from the foyer between 11am and 8pm – no ticket required.

4pm - 10pm
Munro Martin Parklands

Iconic Australian musician Pete Murray will be headlining this FREE family concert with a star-studded line-up of some of our best local artists including Cam Kennedy, Maggie Slater, Kaweyova and Nikki Doll & Band.
Gates open from 4pm through to 10am. Bring the kids, a rug and enjoy the free live performances.
No ticket required.

Florence Street, Cairns

The Meet Eat Repeat crew have planned an extensive range of gastronomical delights with 14 pop-up stalls by local restaurants and food vans to create foodie heaven on Florence Street.
The 'headline' vendors include Crystalbrook's Paper Crane at Riley, The Chambers and Ochre Restaurant.
No ticket required.

Bolshoi Ballet - Spartacus - Cairns Simulcast

Communities in Queensland from the far north to the west will experience this spectacular production as seen from the best seats in the house and enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews prior to the performance. Entry is free, but prior booking on the phone numbers below is required for venues with limited seating.

Widely considered as the premier ballet company in the world, the Bolshoi Ballet is truly one of the great names in performing arts and returns to Brisbane for the first time since its sell-out season in 2013.

From 26 June 2019 and only in Queensland, Australian audiences will enjoy the company’s roster of stars including Yulia Stepanova, Ekaterina Krysanova, Anna Nikulina, Olga Smirnova, Denis Rodkin, Artem Ovcharenko, Mikhail Lobukhin, Vyacheslav Lopatin, and Alexander Volchkov perform the grandiose epic Spartacus and the sumptuously beautiful Jewels.

The Bolshoi Ballet will be accompanied by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Carnival on Collins

White Hat suggests that if you are looking for a way to celebrate Father's Day in Cairns, you should seek out the Carnival on Collins.

It is hard to miss because it regularly attracts 25,000 to the City's Botanic Gardens and Tanks Arts Centre precinct for a big day of family activities There is free entertainment and a market with 200+ stalls offering local art and craft, produce, plants, food and refreshments.

Rusty's Market

A bustling produce market that also offers a variety clothing, jewellery and bric-a-brac. Anyone inteersted in tropical fruits and vegetables is likely to be delighted with this market and White Hat particularly suggests you search out the PNG stalls and talk to the stallholders about how they use the food they have on offer.

Palm Cove Markets

This large waterfront market is about half an hour's drive from Cairns and White Hat suggests it is well worth the trip if you want to experience a busy community market in a tropical atmosphere. There are local handmade goods including jewelry, clothing, pottery, plants, food and skincare products together with family entertainment.

Holloways Beach Markets

 

Please note: The Holloways Beach Market WILL NOT BE ON 9th June 2019 due to the Cairns IronMan event. That market has been postponed until 16th June. Thereafter, markets will resume to the usual schedule of 2nd Sunday of the month.

Currently the Holloways Beach Market is being held in the Syd & Jane Granville Park in Cassia Street while the upgrade to the Esplanade is under way. White Hat suggests that these community markets, about 15 minutes drive from central Cairns, make for a pleasant Sunday outing where you can combine a visit to the market with a barbecue and a swim or a stroll along the beach

With over 70 stalls and a range of food court options, the Cairns Night Markets are a major tourist shopping hub in Cairns. The market is under cover and operates every day of the year.

Tanks Markets

Showcasing , the markets are a relaxing way to spend a Sunday morning.
This market lines Tanks promenade on Collins Avenue, with live entertainment provided by local musicians. Stalls feature a blend of local art, craft, produce, vintage clothing, collectibles and local natural health products. White Hat suggests this venue as a pleasant way to spend a Sunday morning. You may then want to wander on to relax in the nearby Botanic Gardens.

Cairns Cruise Liner Markets

This market is primarily provided for visitors arriving on cruise liners but locals and other visitors are welcome. The market has tourism items, local produce and gifts such as jewelry, leather goods and souvenirs.

Market dates depend on the cruise ship schedule. White Hat suggests that the following are possible 2019 dates since cruise ships will be in port on those days:

Please note: The Esplanade Market IS CANCELLED ON 8th June 2019 due to the Cairns IronMan event. Markets will resume as usual on 15th June

The Esplanade Market is held on the Cairns waterfront and features locally made products including pottery, clothing leatherwork and skincare. White Hat recommends this market for a leisurely Saturday getaway where you can also take advantage of a swim in the lagoon, and cook lunch on the free barbecues while the kids are in the playground.
