Some forthcoming Australian concerts and performances featuring music of Debussy:

Pelleas and Melisande

Victorian Opera present Debussy's  Pelleas and Melisande with Samuel Dundas as Golaud,  Angus Wood as Pelleas, David Parkin as Arkel, Siobhan Stagg as Melisande, Liane Keegan as Genevieve, Sophia Wasley as Yniold and Stephen Marsh as Shepherd/Doctor with Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) Orchestra conducted by Richard Mills.

Debussy's only opera is a masterwork of tonal colour and sensitive setting of the French language. White Hat strongly recommends going out of your way to see this great work which is rarely performed in Australia.

Sung in French with English surtitles. Running time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, plus interval.

Sonatas for Strings

Australian Chamber Orchestra

The Australian Chamber Orchestra with Richard Tognetti (director and violin) perform:

This program unites a collection of pieces that forego an explanatory narrative in return for a rich vein of timeless beauty.

William Walton’s Sonata for Strings is a seemingly effortless interweaving of parts, while fellow Brit, Sir Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings holds a special place in the heart of the ACO and it remains a favourite for musicians and audiences alike.

Peter Sculthorpe’s first Sonata for Strings, Ravel’s Two Hebrew Melodies and Debussy’s The Girl with the Flaxen Hair and The Interrupted Serenade complete this offering of music for string orchestra
