Prahran Market has some of the best delis (delicatessens) in
Melbourne. They can be expensive so you will have to shop around a bit.
Pete & Rosie's is an institution, but don't ignore the others.

about when to find food bargains.
Prahran Market can be found in Commercial Road Prahran near the corner of
Chapel Street. Take a
number 72 tram from Swanston Street in the city, or a Sandringham line train
to Prahran Station.
At around 11 o'clock on a Saturday morning, listen to the excellent jazz
band - The Marketeers - and sit and watch the passing parade in the
market square.
Better
still, follow the band and watch how they interact with the people around
them. You may find them accompanying a 5 year-old singing Bananas in
Pyjamas or engaging in an impromptu percussion break with a butcher
playing a pair of skewers on the bench. Real live music for real live
people.
There is also a craft market in Elizabeth Street (at the rear of Prahran
Market) every Sunday.
