Burnham Beeches Estate

This lavish estate was built for Alfred Nicholas (developer of Aspro) and his family. It exudes 1920s chic and you would not be surprised to see a Hispano Suza glide up the driveway with young men in boaters and young ladies with parasols. The Alfred Nicholas Gardens (see left) with their extensive water features are open to the public.

National Rhododendron Gardens

Home to the Australian Mountain Ash - the world's largest flowering tree, these gardens feature a huge range of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, hydrangeas and daffodils.

The Georgian Road, Olinda

Other Gardens & Arboreta

The R.J. Hamer Arboretum (Chalet Road, Olinda) features European American and Asian trees, while the Mt. Dandenong Arboretum (Ridge Road, Dandenong) features rare conifers from the Southern Hemisphere. The George Tindale Gardens (Sherbrook Road, Sherbrook -  Me ref 75 J2) and the Pirianda Gardens (Hacketts Road, Olinda) both blend exotic plants with the native trees

National Rhododendron Garden

At The National Rhododendron Gardens you will find brilliantly coloured blooms of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, cherries and daffodils. Seasonal changes ensure the gardens are a delight all year around. Yarra Ranges Regional Museum

This museum includes a significant section dedicated to the great Australian singer, Dame Nelly Melba. It is currently closed for major renovations but will reopen to the public early 2011.

Chestnut Festival

Held annually by the Mt Dandenong Preschool on the Kalorama Reserve in the Dandenong Ranges. Market stalls, fair ground rides, fairy floss, hot food and, of course, roasted chestnuts! Full details at Chestnut Festival.
