Australian flag half mast

Why is the Australian flag flying at half mast today on all government buildings in NSW & the ACT?

This is because the New South Wales Department of Premier and Cabinet has issued a request for flags to be flown at half-mast on Friday, 24 January 2020 as a mark of mourning and respect for the three crew members lost on Thursday, 23 January 2020 when their C-130 aircraft crashed near Peak View in the Snowy Monaro area while conducting water bombing on large fires in the area.
